What resistance teaches us about commitments, the best strength-training program, Figma, and some memes
Something I learned
I was studying the New Testament this last week and something really stood out to me about resistance and challenges:
After Jesus was baptized and went to fast in the wilderness for 40 days, He was immediately targeted and tempted by the devil.
I think it's interesting how the devil chooses to target us after we make commitments or after really uplifting experiences.
Often I think that if I commit to something good, my life should be easy-breezy. I get confused, however, when I discover that resistance follows my commitments.
Now I realize that when I feel resistance afer making a noble commitment, it's not a sign that I've chosen the wrong path. On the contrary. It's a sign that I've chosen a good path. So good, in fact, that I caught the attention of the devil.
Something I did
I rested.
I just finished a four-week strength training cycle using Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 Method.
I've been going to the gym regularly since high school.
This is the best strength training program I've ever used.
For every four weeks during the cycle, you take one week of rest.
Every four weeks you increase your max on four core lifts: shoulder press, deadlift, bench press, and squat.
The reason I'm doing this is because I really enjoy Olympic Lifting and CrossFit and want to be able to put up competitive weight.
I may never go to the Olympics or the CrossFit games, but I'll be able to hold my own during a competitive workout 💪 (I hope)
Something I used
I use Figma almost every day for my social media posts.
It's a graphic design software not far off from Adobe Photoshop that lets me create logos, custom images, and unique social media posts.
Something I laughed at
I'm a sucker for a good meme. Here are some that I laughed at this week:
