Turn Your Books Into Manuals
We read books to gain valuable information.
If you're like me, it's hard to remember that valuable information.
If only books were written like manuals. What if at the beginning of the book rather than a table of contents you had small how-to's and quick reference to the most meaningful parts?
I've developed a method to turn any book into a manual where you can quickly refer back to the most meaningful parts without having to take notes in a journal.
All you need is a pen.
Manuals for Life
If you want to learn something, someone's written a book about it. Books on finance, relationships, sales, programming, biology, tech, really any topic are available for purchase.
Every book can be turned into a manual. This way you can have a manual for finance, a manual for relationships, for sales, for programming, for biology, for tech, for anything!
How to Turn a Book into a Manual
The first and most obvious step is to read the book.
When you read something that grabs your attention or that you find useful, mark it! You can do this with a pen or pencil. I also like to use highlighters for good one-liners or for things that really made me think.
Here's an example:
Take note of your thoughts in the margin for future reference as well.
Once you have your thoughts written down, go to the front or back of the book, find a blank (or mostly blank) page, and start a list of how-to's and summaries.
Write the how-to or summary along with the page number.
Here's an example:
Now when you need advice or inspiration on a specific topic, you'll have the most valuable parts of the book written down for easy access.
