The Future of AI

How can you boost your productivity using AI?

I recently met with Dr. Tony Martinez, PhD, who has over 40 years of experience with Artificial Intelligence. He’s been around since the beginning of humanity’s journey to make Sci-Fi a reality.

Most people have heard of ChatGPT, an AI system that takes in a prompt and intelligently outputs a product.

This technology is revolutionary and, if used correctly, will help you be more productive. The purpose of my interview with Dr. Martinez was answering my burning questions about AI: What are the benefits and possible setbacks of using AI? Does it live up to the hype? Will robots one day take over the world???

Here's how it went:

How is AI currently being used?

  • Approving and giving out loans
  • Scenes in movies are being generated more and more with AI integration

How does AI make us more productive? How has it changed the way we do things?

Technology has come so far already. Here are some jobs that existed in the past that have become obsolete due to technology:

  • Human computers: Really smart people that we relied on for all of our calculations. Today we have handheld calculators on our phones and even our watches.

  • Pin boys: Kids who would put your pins back up when you bowl. Today we have convenient machines that handle this for us. No more dodging bowling balls!

  • Lift operators: People who manually started and stopped the elevator using levers and buttons. They had to time it just right for each floor. Today all it takes is a push of a single button.

  • Switchboard Operators: These poor souls actually had to manually connect calls using a switchboard. Today we have wireless networks and can make instant calls anywhere in the world.

There are many other examples, but the point is that technology has always eliminated the need for humans to do certain (often mundane) tasks. It’s no different with AI.

Currently AI helps us be more productive by handling monotonous tasks like handling large amounts of data and coming to meaningful conclusions about that data. This aids doctors, scientists, marketers, and every day internet users make more calculated decisions faster.

AI will soon be able to outperform humans in many tasks, even programming!

When it becomes more widely available and cheap to use, it will help us provide greater service in our work and help us to spend more time on our human “niches”. Robots can’t enjoy the outdoors or spending time with family!

What should we be nervous about with the development of AI?

More specifically, should we worry about robots taking over the world?

Maybe not (yet), but there are two trends that have caused a lot of trouble in the history of the world: the rise of technology and the presence of people with low morality. This can be a dangerous combination. We can see today how technology has equipped scammers, terrorists, and other criminals with the means to do harm to innocent people.

If they have access to it, AI will only make their job easier.

However, this doesn’t make AI an evil thing. AI comes with a multitude of blessings. People will get better healthcare, have more access to useful information, produce higher quality work, and more.

A paint brush in the hands of a good person will be used to create inspiring art. A paint brush in the hands of a bad person will be used to defile private property.

💡
A tool shouldn’t be avoided for its potential to do harm, but should be used for its potential to do good.

It’s our responsibility to use new technology for good, and even to combat those who would use it for bad.

When will companies choose to switch to AI for their tasks?

When it’s cheaper and more efficient than paying a person.

If this happens to you, apply your skills to another industry. The rise of technology always comes with new opportunities.

Here’s my conclusion based on my interview with someone who’s studied AI for over four decades:

💡
AI, just like any other tool, can be an immense blessing if used correctly.

Let's use AI to do good, to add light to the world and to those around us.

Let's use it to create, inspire, achieve, and protect in ways that you couldn’t do before.

With all of this advancement in technology, there needs to be balance. My hope is that we will use new technologies to automate the tasks that stand in the way of what matters most to us: human connection.
