Something I Learned
This week I finished reading Start With Why by Simon Sinek.
Here are the top 3 lessons I learned from the book and my top 3 pieces of advice to give based on what I read:
Top 3 Lessons
- To inspire is far better than to motivate.
- People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.
- We make decisions based on WHY, and we rationalize with WHAT.
Top 3 Pieces of Advice
- When hiring or building a team, choose people who believe what you believe, not just those with the right skills.
- When asked about your business, work, or anything else you do, lead with WHY, followed by HOW, then WHAT.
- As time goes on, keep your WHY crystal clear and communicate it to those you lead.
What I've read and learned from Start With Why has changed my focus from WHAT I do to WHY I do it. My conversations with people in my network and those who are interested in doing business with me have changed from the nitty gritty WHAT's to an overall higher purpose.
Definitely recommend you get or listen to the book! You won't regret it.
Something I Did
I love coming up with simple programming projects to make my life easier, so this weekend I took some time to write a little program to calculate how many sales one needs in order to make a specified amount of money.
Here's a little snapshot of the code:

And here's a preview of what the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of the program looks like:

Something I Used
We have an Amazon Fire TV, but our remote broke 😆
Luckily, there's an Amazon Fire TV App you can download that connects directly to the TV as a remote!

Amazon has thought of everything.
