Don't Be Nice, Tony Stark, and a Butler With No Pants.
Something I learned
I was sitting at church on Sunday listening to a woman give a talk (a sermon) about being kind. What she said about kindness and niceness really stuck out to me. Here’s what I learned:
Being nice isn’t the same as being kind.
Being nice means that you are agreeable and non-confrontational.
Being kind, on the other hand, means that you are generous, considerate, or friendly.
A nice person will say to a sick friend, “I’m sorry that you’re sick.”
A kind person will make that sick friend dinner and visit them.
Niceness is typically self-centered, not wanting to get involved or have to defend their stance.
Kindness is typically other-centered, proactively getting involved and willing to defend what they believe to be right.
A nice person will avoid hard conversations for the sake of being comfortable.
A kind person will instigate friendly conversation in order to make things right.
Being kind is harder than being nice.
Being kind often takes you out of your comfort zone. Being kind requires you to be generous with your time, talents, and energy.
Becoming kind is a lifelong pursuit, not something you’re born with.
Being kind to someone is one of the best feelings in the world. So why don’t we do it more often? I think it’s because we’re all naturally wired to think for ourselves. Developing the habit of kindness requires practice and is a skill that anyone can develop with hard work (and no small amount of praying).
Don't just be nice. Be kind.
Something I did
This week I learned what a “drip” is.
I know, I know, I’m a little behind.
From what was explained to me, it’s another word for “outfit”.
Not sure why we can’t just call it an outfit, but I guess this newfound knowledge will keep me from embarrassing myself in the future 🤷♂️.
Something I used
One of my friends let me borrow his Varla electric scooter. It’s the fastest, most expensive scooter I have ever ridden in my entire life.
Let me tell you about this thing:
It has 3 gears:
Gear 1 will get you to 15 mph
Gear 2 will get you to 30 mph
Gear 3 will get you to 45 mph
And guess how much it costs?
$2,100 🤯
The first time I rode it I felt like Tony Stark flying the Iron Man suit for the first time. It’s insanely fast, and a little dangerous without a helmet 😆
Something I laughed at
I was scrolling through some of my high school photos on my phone and found works of art:
